Growboxx® plant cocoon manual

Start planting trees in combination with shrubs, flowers or vegetables in a water saving and sustainable way - use the biodegradable Growboxx® plant cocoon. 1. DAY 1 - Dig the planting hole – L x W x D: 50x50x18cm (20x20x7 inch) - keep the capillary system of the soil intact
2. DAY 1 - Fill the planting hole with water - clay 20 liters (5 gns) - sandy soil 30 liters (7.5 gns) - dune sand 40 liters (10 gns)
3. DAY 2 - Open top soil - wait 10 minutes before starting with planting to let oxygen in
4. Detail of plant and/or seed plug - the opening is for the primary roots - incisions for secondary roots - standard they are closed to prevent evaporation
5. Open the bottom with a pen if you want to plant in the plugs with seeds
6. Cut the incisions with a knife if you want to plant seeds
7. The seed plug is now prepared to plant seeds
8. If you plant a tree in the middle of the tube, cut off 5cm of the bottom to get rid of horizontal growing roots
9. By carefully cutting the bag, we keep the root system intact
10. Make carefully a planting hole without damaging the capillary system of the soil at the size of the pot of the tree
11. You may add some mycorrhizae to inoculate the little planting hole - produce them yourself (read our website) or buy them
12. The root system is only one centimeter off the - still intact - capillary system of the soil
13. Put soil around the tree - do not use your feet to press, this will damage the root system - later you connect the roots to the capillary system with water
14. Place the anti-evaporation cover
15. Put sufficient soil on the anti-evaporation cover - the more the better
16. Put the Growboxx® around the tree
17. The biodegradable BioGrowsafe® is placed around the tree
18. Only if you use the cover of the Growboxx® to plant vegetables or other plants, then fill the Growboxx® up to the rib in the side wall
19. You can then also use compost in the Growboxx® - mixed with soil - the vegetables or plants will grow better
20. Growboxx® filled with a mix of 50% soil and 50% compost
21. Lock the cover to the Growboxx® so it will prevent the water from evaporating and cannot be blown away

23. Fill the Growboxx® with water through the siphon opening

25. Put the clay ball in the siphon to close it
26. Add 4 liters of water through the BioGrowsafe® to connect roots to the soil and to wash the soil on the anti-evaporation cover
27. Carefully add soil to the 4 sides - do not damage the Growboxx®!
28. Always fill the seed plugs with soil! Also if you do not want to use them for vegetables or plants
29. If you want to plant seeds or plugs, the water level MAY NOT be higher than 2.5 cm (1 inch) in the plug. Otherwise the seed or plant dies
31. You can plant seeds, but we do NOT advise this
32. If you plant seeds, always plant two seeds - if one doesn't germinate, you still have a plant. Plant the seeds carefully, don't break the primary root
33. Cover the seeds with soil
34. We advise to plant vegetable plants - not vegetable seeds
35. Open the plant plug bottom with your finger -plant after 3pm - towards the cool night
36. Plant the plants with their root tips in the water
37. Then you add some soil and immediately brush them with a little water - do not drown them
38. You can plant a Growboxx® plant cocoon with only vegetables

41. For vegetables, add fertilizer - one pill per month - but only if you have done a refill of minimum 10 liters (2.5 gns), or else the roots will burn
42. Put the fertilizer pill through the opening of the siphon into the Growboxx®
43. After a few weeks the plants have already put their roots in the water and grow hydroponically
44. You can also plant cuttings in the plant plug - make a fresh cut
45. Press the cutting through the opening in the water - it will start to make roots
46. You can also plant little native plants, succulents, bedding or beautification plants
47. To plant potted plants, cut the paper out of the box
48. Cut the bag off the plant
49. Break the roots up to the size of the opening in the cover that has been cut
50. The plant's roots inside the box are supported by the soil and compost that we placed in the Growboxx® (step 18)
51. You may use healthy pot soil that has been falling off the plant, to close the opening - help it cool down and prevent evaporation
52. Place the BioGrowsafe® around the tree to protect against sun - wind - sand - night frosts and grazing animals
53. Fill the Growboxx® with water through the siphon opening
54. Put 4 liters of water through the Biogrowsafe® in the middle of the Growboxx® to wash the soil between the Growboxx® and the ground, and connect the roots of the tree to the capillary system
55. Cypress with 3 succulent plants - one succulent cutting - in plant plugs - including some succulent cuttings on the outside of the Growboxx® - planted
56. After a few weeks you see that the cuttings in the Growboxx® starts to grow well - the cuttings aside of the Growboxx® suffer
57. After 4 months the cuttings are already growing fast
