Galapagos (Darwin) Islands - Groasis brings plant species back

Groasis on the Galapagos Islands with the Waterboxx plant cocoonThe Galapagos Islands have a volcanic origin and belong to Ecuador. You can find many unique plant and animal species on the Galapagos Islands. Because there are a few predators on the islands, the selection pressure of the animals was different and they have evolved in a special way.

But, there are species threatened with extinction on the Galapagos Islands. There is no fresh water, and there are no sources. Fresh water is brought by a ship from the mainland. For this reason, the islands were once inhabited. The fresh water was scarce.

Life on the Galapagos Islands

Thus, there is little fresh water and the climate on the Galapagos Islands is warm and dry. In addition, there are several problems caused by humans. In 2001, an oil leak from a stranded tanker threatened the ecosystem and between 1990 and 2014, the population increased from 9,735 to 40,000. In addition, people brought animals to the islands that threaten the ecosystem. Black rats, dogs, goats and cats have caused the extinction of several species.

Restore nature

With the Groasis Ecological Water Saving Technology we can plant trees, shrubs and flowers without the help of irrigation and energy. We use less than 1% of the water compared to drip irrigation. Our technology is the ideal way to bring plant species back to the islands in an efficient and environmentally friendly way.

Groasis and the Charles Darwin Foundation

The Charles Darwin Foundation has done various plantations with the Waterboxx® plant cocoon. Below you can see different videos about the projects that are done with the Waterboxx® plant cocoon.
