Agriculture / Tree nurseries

Tree-nurserymen know that growing a young viable tree is an interesting business. With the AquaPro technology tree nurseries are entering upon new, surprising times. With the old method, with which trees live a hazardous first year because they evaporate more water than they receive through their roots, usually a bigger tree is planted in order to have more 'body', so that the tree even survives in dry conditions. It is obvious that a bigger tree is more expensive. The Groasis waterboxx works in a different way: we grow trees as small as possible that have many roots but almost no leaves. In Morocco these techniques are now explored with simple but effective methods. After planting the tree the waterboxx daily gives the roots a measured quantity of water, so that the tree is established very quickly. At the same time the tree evaporates a very small quantity of water because of the few leaves.

Thanks to this method, 1) small trees = low cost price and 2) many roots, every day a fixed quantity of water and little evaporation = few trees die after planting, the cost price of the basic material is considerably lower than it would have been with the traditional planting method. Moreover planting pace is considerably higher and the Groasis waterboxx can be used at least 10 times. In this way planting trees with the waterboxx becomes a lot cheaper!

Another example of these new possibilities: in theory growing young trees can take place near the location where the tree will be planted afterwards. The nursing is done in plugs of 15 x 5 x 10 cm. In this way around 300 to 400 saplings (young trees) per m2 can be grown in 6 months. This means 6,000,000 saplings per year on one hectare. Later these saplings are put into the waterboxx. When they are planted out, an enormous area can be covered. The Groasis waterboxx realizes all this at extraordinary low costs.
