Seeds or Trees

The Groasis waterboxx offers considerable cost price advantages for users. One of the manners to save money and increase profits is using seed instead of saplings (young trees or bushes). The possibility to use saplings is already an important “cost saving” compared to the trees that are presently used with the traditional planting methods. With traditional planting methods the survival difficulty and low survival rate as a consequence is often solved by using bigger planting material in order to give the saplings some more substance to survive. But this method of using bigger trees to cause a higher success rate of planting results, also causing the need of deep planting holes which are difficult to make and therefore expensive too, makes planting trees more expensive.

Look at the animation to decide whether to plant seeds or trees.
Or download the animation that shows you whether it is better to sow a seed or plant a sapling on full screen and send it to a friend if you like it.

The Groasis waterboxx technology offers the possibility to save considerably on costs of planting material. Look at these arguments:

  1. Instead of using bigger size planting material you can use saplings in plugs. The sapling size preferably not more than 10 cm high and the size of the plug preferably Length 5 x Width 5 x Height 15 cm.

  2. If the sapling is higher than 10 cm, then cut it to maximum 10 cm height to prevent evaporation.

seeds or tree foto 1This plant is far too big to plant. After planting it will evaporate more water than its roots find. So it will die.

seeds or tree 2We prune it to 10 cm length

  3. Cut the primary root at the place where it starts growing horizontally.

seeds or tree 5We cut the horizontal part of the primary root off

seeds or tree 6Now we have a vertical downwards growing primary root. It will sprout again at where we've cut it and from there on develop new vertical downwards growing roots

  4. Do not sow seeds directly in the Groasis waterboxx. This method is not reliable.
  5. Trees grown from seed grow considerably faster, are considerably stronger, have considerably less problems with draught and are far more effective on rocks.
  6. Saplings on plugs or seed are cheap so the cost price of planting this material is low.
  7. The extra annual costs of around 2 US$ through using the Groasis waterboxx will therefore partially be compensated by the lower costs of the planting material and the rest will be compensated through the higher success rate of the planting result. The Groasis waterboxx is therefore in many occasions cost neutral in its use.
